I was just wondering why some people seem to be so optimistic about Chrysler these days. I recently saw some sales figures from Automotive News covering the first 4 months of this year. Even though Chrysler, Dodge sales were up, I couldn't believe how far behind those 2 brands were. Based only on car sales, Dodge sold 154,037 cars in the first 4 moths of this year. That's up from last year. However, I saw the sales figures of the Accord and Camry. Honda sold 123,485 Accords and Toyota sold 143,677 Camrys. Independently, both these cars are ALMOST OUTSELLING THE ENTIRE DODGE CAR LINEUP. That's terrible. Overall market share in the car market looks something like this: Toyota has 9.8% of the car market, Honda has 7.8%, and Dodge has 5.1%. Dodge cars are not selling as well as they should. Chrysler has 3.3% of the car market, while Plymouth has .9% [webmaster note: this is partly due to Chrysler's decision to end the Breeze and announce the end of Plymouth]. This is not even looking at GM or Ford. The trucks are a different story. With trucks added, Dodge and Chrysler are doing better. Is Dodge and Chrysler going to move into the truck market only?
